Artificial intelligence (βAIβ) has assisted me in earning $175,000. I discussed embracing AI in the last issue. In this issue, we will discuss how I got started, and how you can get started with AI.
How I Started with AI
I started by using ChatGPT to assist me with writing. I would mainly give it prompts to produce social media posts. ChatGPT, for me, is a starting point that needs to be edited. ChatGPT lacks the required soul in writing.
Here is a mostly unedited example of a post I helped my daughter create with ChatGPT. The only thing she changed were the emjois.

Writing is also where ChatGPT assisted me in getting $175,000 for FinDaily. In both cases, I was required to submit two specific business plans for an accelerator program and grant. So, I feed ChatGPT the parameters of the business plans and my high-level thoughts. It took a lot of editing, but having five-plus pages to edit is way easier for me than a blank page.
I am now using Claude to break down blog posts into social media posts. I got this idea from Jason Staats. Again, I will edit these before posting them, but anything is better than a blank page.
My girlsβ favorite use of ChatGPT are bedtime stories with this prompt. They each get two things to include in the story. I am sure there are better prompts, but they do not mind.
Where to Start with AI
There are three ways to start with AI in your accounting firm.
Start by playing with AI is the simplest way to learn it. Simply typing questions into ChatGPT will put you ahead of 80% of accountants. Simply R&D what I am doing above to get started. This will help you be more comfortable with #3 and jumpstart your learning.
Learning AI to me is best done by doing #1. There are plenty of resources out there on learning AI. However, Jason Staats has the best content around AI in the accounting industry. His and Chad Davisβs podcast My Automation Town is where I would start. The plot line alone is worth listening to.
You do not need to be an expert. All you need to learn is how to spot potential solutions AI can assist with or solve for your clients.
If you want to go a step further, then consider joining me in this 30-day no-code AI bootcamp that I am doing in November. You will be more well verused in AI and you might come out of it with a sellable product offering.
Talking to Clients about AI. I feel like I am writing a love π letter to Staats, but he nailed it with this video π.
Our clients need help with AI
And if we wait for the 'experts' to help... you may not be happy with the results

I was the first to tell one of my clients about ChatGPT. Now, they use it every week in their business.
This is the main reason you should lean into AI. You can create a ton of value for your clients by giving them AI ideas that they might have yet to consider, so start playing around with ChatGPT.
